In the past few years, a group of individuals I am fortunate to know began working toward a true Erminette Ameraucana. I am also working toward this. These gorgeous and productive blue egg laying birds are still PROJECT BIRDS and will be for some time, but with each generation produced, they come closer to the proposed standard!
Erminette Ameraucana Standard of Perfection
This proposal has been thoroughly worked on and discussed by a dedicated group of individuals, working diligently towards getting this variety consistent and up to quality for the Ameraucana breed standard.
COLOR: Male and Female
Comb, Face, Wattles and Earlobes: Bright red, except female earlobes to be very pale, matching color of the skin.
Beak: White to light horn.
Eyes: Reddish bay.
Shanks and Toes: Slate to blue shanks, bottoms of feet and toes white.
Plumage: A variegated pattern, consisting of 85% white and 15% black. White plumage is to be uniformly clean white, with no black flecking or spotting. Black plumage is to be uniformly black, no ticking or mottling of white present. Even distribution of black plumage throughout the white.
Beard and Muffs: Following plumage for variegated white and black.
Faults: Uneven slate shank color, consisting of too much white variegation. Excess black plumage, exceeding 85/15 percentage ratio. Cracked or streaked beak color. Orange eyes. Brassiness to male plumage. Hazel eyes.
Disqualifications: Any other color than black expressing on non-white plumage (blue, splash, self-blue, red or gold). Mottling or white tipped plumage.
